About Congo :
The capital of the Republic of Congo is Brazzaville . Hence, it is also known as Congo- Brazzaville. It was a former French colony. It shares its borders with Gabon , Cameroon , Central African Republic , Democratic Republic of the Congo , Angola and the Gulf of Guinea .
It celebrated its Independence Day on the 15 th August, 1960.
Upon independence in 1960, the former French region of Middle Congo became the Republic of the Congo. A quarter century of experimentation with Marxism was abandoned in 1990 and a democratically elected government installed in 1992 and H.E. SASSOU- NGUESSO was appointed as the President.

The official language of The Republic of Congo is French. The national languages spoken there are Lingala and Munukutuba.
The estimated population according to the census of 2005 is 3,999,000. The population is divided as: Kongo 48%, Sangha 20%, M'Bochi 12%, Teke 17%, Europeans and other 3%. The religions found here are: Christian 50%, animist 48%, Muslim 2%.
Geography :
Congo is located in the Central-western part of Africa. It lies between Angola and Gabon. It is bounded by the Congo River on the south and eastern boundary. The capital of the Republic of Congo- Brazzaville is located on the Congo River, in the south of the country, which is immediately across from Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Climate :
The tropical rainy season is the period between March to June. The dry season lies between June to October. There is a persistent high temperatures and humidity throughout the year.
Since the country is located on the Equator, the climate is consistent year-round -- the average day temperature is a humid 75 F/24 C, with nights generally in the 60s F/16-21 C.
Language :
The official language of the Republic of Congo is French. There are two national languages- Lingala and Kikongo. |
